RESTORATIVE DENTAL CROWNS

Dental Crowns: Restoring Your Smile

Why Choose Concierge Dental for Your Dental Crowns?

Three Reasons to Consider Dental Crowns

Function

Crowns can restore the function of a damaged or decayed tooth, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

Appearance

Crowns can improve the appearance of a tooth that is misshapen, discolored, or otherwise unattractive.

Support

Crowns can provide additional support for a tooth that has a large filling, reducing the risk of further damage or decay.

What are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns, also known as caps, are tooth-shaped coverings that are placed over a damaged or decayed tooth. A crown is designed to restore the shape, size, and strength of a tooth, as well as improve its overall appearance.

Crown Placement Process Explained

Getting a crown typically requires two visits. During the first visit, your dentist will prepare your tooth by removing any decay or damage and shaping it to fit the crown. Then, an impression of your tooth will be taken and sent to a dental lab where your custom crown will be created. In the meantime, you’ll receive a temporary crown to protect your tooth until your permanent crown is ready.

At your second visit, your dentist will remove the temporary crown and place your permanent crown on your tooth using a special adhesive. Your dentist will check the fit and make any necessary adjustments to ensure that your crown is comfortable and looks natural.

Restorative Dental Crown Treatment FAQ

Dental crowns can last for 10 to 15 years or more with proper care.

The process of getting a dental crown typically involves numbing the area with local anesthesia, so you should not feel any pain during the procedure. You may experience some mild discomfort or sensitivity after the anesthesia wears off, but this should subside within a few days.

You should care for your dental crown the same way you care for your natural teeth. This includes brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, and visiting your dentist for regular checkups and cleanings.

While rare, it is possible for a dental crown to fall off or become loose. If this happens, you should contact your dentist right away. In some cases, the crown can be reattached if caught early enough.

How much do dental crowns cost?

While dental crowns are designed to be long-lasting, they may need to be replaced eventually due to wear and tear or other factors. Your dentist can advise you on how often you should have your crown checked and replaced if necessary.

Our Process -- And Yours

Non-surgical treatment, the method of choice for early-stage gum disease, essentially amounts to a deep, professional cleaning of the teeth that gets at the tartar under the gumline and includes the application of a local antimicrobial.

Vigilance (yours)
It's important to be vigilant for gum disease because it can be painless, revealing itself only when valuable treatment time has been lost.
1
Local anesthesia (if needed)
Root-planing and scaling clean down to the roots. We may use a local anesthetic to make you more comfortable.
2
Root-planing and scaling (deep-cleaning)
If diagnosed in the early stages, the preferred and more conservative (i.e., non-invasive) option is scaling and root-planing.
3
Anti-microbial application
We proactively apply an antimicrobial to the affected areas to kill and guard against any bacteria there that could pose a setback.
4
Ongoing home care and vigilance
You establish and make a habit of a rigorous home dental-health regimen that includes thorough brushing and flossing, and ongoing vigilance for flare-ups.
