Discover the Benefits of Root Canals at Concierge Dental

Your Guide to Understanding Endodontics and Root Canal Procedures

Three Reasons to Consider a Root Canal

Alleviate Severe Tooth Pain

A root canal can alleviate severe tooth pain caused by an infected or damaged pulp.

Preserve Your Natural Tooth and Avoid Extractions

This procedure helps preserve your natural tooth, preventing the need for extraction and a more complex dental replacement.

Protect Your Oral Health by Preventing the Spread of Infection Spread

Root canals prevent the spread of infection to surrounding teeth and tissues, protecting your overall oral health.

When is a Root Canal Needed?

A root canal might be needed if you have a toothache, sensitivity to hot or cold, or swelling in your gums. Sometimes, a dental injury or a deep cavity can cause the pulp to become damaged or infected. If left untreated, the infection could spread, leading to more serious health problems.

What Happens During a Root Canal?

During the procedure, our experienced dentist will numb the area around the tooth to make sure the patient is comfortable. Next, they remove the damaged pulp and carefully clean the inside of the tooth. Finally, the tooth is filled and sealed with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. Later, a crown is installed to protect the tooth and restore its function.

Root Canal Treatment FAQ

Symptoms may include severe toothache, sensitivity to hot or cold, gum swelling, and discoloration of the tooth.

Modern dental techniques and anesthesia make root canals much more comfortable, often relieving the pain caused by the infected tooth.

A typical root canal procedure takes between 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the complexity and the tooth’s condition.

What is the success rate of root canals?

Most patients can return to work or their daily activities shortly after the procedure, but it’s best to consult with your dentist for specific recommendations.

Follow your dentist’s instructions, which may include taking prescribed medication, avoiding hard or chewy foods, and maintaining good oral hygiene.

In most cases, a crown is recommended to protect the tooth and restore its function after a root canal.

The cost of a root canal varies depending on the tooth’s location and complexity, as well as your dental insurance coverage.

Whenever possible, saving your natural tooth through a root canal is the preferred option, as it helps maintain your oral health and function. However, your dentist will discuss your specific situation and recommend the best course of action.

Although root canals have a high success rate, in rare cases, the tooth may not heal as expected, and additional treatment may be necessary. Regular dental checkups can help identify any issues early on.

Our Process -- And Yours

Non-surgical treatment, the method of choice for early-stage gum disease, essentially amounts to a deep, professional cleaning of the teeth that gets at the tartar under the gumline and includes the application of a local antimicrobial.

Vigilance (yours)
It's important to be vigilant for gum disease because it can be painless, revealing itself only when valuable treatment time has been lost.
1
Local anesthesia (if needed)
Root-planing and scaling clean down to the roots. We may use a local anesthetic to make you more comfortable.
2
Root-planing and scaling (deep-cleaning)
If diagnosed in the early stages, the preferred and more conservative (i.e., non-invasive) option is scaling and root-planing.
3
Anti-microbial application
We proactively apply an antimicrobial to the affected areas to kill and guard against any bacteria there that could pose a setback.
4
Ongoing home care and vigilance
You establish and make a habit of a rigorous home dental-health regimen that includes thorough brushing and flossing, and ongoing vigilance for flare-ups.
