How Much Do Dentures Cost?
Dentures have been around for generations. Maybe a hundred years or more. The different technologies that have evolved to give us what we know today as dentures are incredible. There are patients that come in and have horrible teeth and esthetics that they hate, and I’ve heard it so many times: they say, “Just take them all out and give me dentures because I’m done with it.” It’s totally identifiable for me, and I can totally understand why.
Sometimes, I’ll pump the brakes to ensure we’re on the right track. But other times, I totally get it. If you’re looking for dentures, you’re concerned about not only the looks of everything but the frustrations you’ve had for so many years.
So, let’s just acknowledge that for a second here. If you’re really frustrated with teeth that are breaking or decay that seemingly keeps coming back all the time, there’s an underlying reason. And if you’re seeking a new dentist, it’s probably due to this frustration. So, you will immediately ask, “How much do dentures cost? I want to make sure I can afford this.”
We can offer very affordable options and dentures. Prices can range anywhere from under $1,000 to many, many thousands. But the question is, is it the right treatment for you? Some people have come in over the years and have said, “Listen, I gotta tell you, I’m ready for my dentures. My dad got his dentures, his dad got his dentures, and now, I’m that age, and I’m ready for my dentures.”
Those types of conversations make it easier for me to choose the right product and solution for the patients. All in all, the price of the denture generally relates to what our esthetic goals are and where our functional goals are because we can do dentures and add some implants into dentures, an implant-retained denture, and make that more complicated, which, of course, makes the price go up.
But pure dentures on the top—many patients are generally comfortable with upper dentures. Our literature tells us that somewhere between 80 and 90% of patients will get used to upper dentures. However, about 80 to 90% of the lower denture patients are disappointed with that as a solution. So again, the more extended conversation is more targeted toward you.
Do you have a gag reflex? If you do, then you should not get a full upper denture. It will cause you to gag and be uncomfortable. You won’t wear it, and you won’t use it. So, at any price, it wouldn’t matter because it would be what I call a pocket denture, and you would leave it in your pocket.
So when you go out for an enjoyable experience with your family or when you’re in public and you need to wear it, you wear it and then take it out because it bothers you. And that’s not a good solution for virtually anyone. So, consider what you’re looking for. And if it’s a denture, wonderful.
