Video: What is Teledentisry?
We are finding ourselves in a remote living experience right now. We’ve got Zoom calls in business, and we’ve got all kinds of remote work going on. Many of us have found it difficult to have the needed care done.
Teledentistry affords us an opportunity to deliver access to care when you need it most by providing virtual consultations, monitoring patient care, or even figuring out a new preliminary diagnosis. We can do this all remotely now with virtual dentistry. Virtual consultations are another really important area. We can have a conversation with our patients over the internet, and have most of their questions answered before they even come in for their records visit, or a definitive plan and diagnosis. It’s been really great in so many areas of health care that dentistry is falling right in line.
The efficiency created from these virtual teledentistry meetings is unbelievable. We’re able to solve most of the questions/resolve most of the issues by having a conversation, and you can be in the convenience of your own home. When you come into the office, we have all the information we need to make your visit fast and efficient. Some areas that are most appropriate for teledentistry include the screening of initial patients, including any areas where you have a limited exam of something that you might need.
Some areas where you have a toothache or something that you’re not quite sure what it is, and you just need some support, we can use teledentistry for that.
Other areas that are appropriate for teledentistry include patient education and monitoring of existing cases. If you have a question with your orthodontics, for example, you may want to just ask the doctor virtually. We can do that with tele dentistry.
Additionally, if the patient has a question about something specific or even just in general, we’re able to have someone on our team do teledentistry with that patient. Just to make sure that they have that comfort and that encouragement that they need.
Obviously, teledentistry can’t solve every problem. If you need a dental clinic, you’ll need to come in and see us. At the same time, anything that does not require a physical examination in the office or where we’re trying to do treatment, tele dentistry may be a great answer for you.
